About the Job
Oneida Professional Services (OPS) is actively seeking a highly motivated, full-time Writing Coach for Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one and group coaching to students to improve their writing and critical thinking skills.

Assist students in understanding academic-writing fundamentals, including organization, structure, grammar rules, writing conventions and styles, pre-writing strategies, punctuation, word choice, paraphrasing and summarizing, signal phrasing, quoting, and citing.

Guide students in developing critical thinking, argumentation, and reasoning skills.

Help students adhere to academic standards, such as citation styles and methods for avoiding plagiarism, producing original work, evidence-based research, and reasoned debate.
· Utilize classroom presentation software, such as PowerPoint; classroom management software, such as Blackboard or Sakai; videoconference software, such as Zoom or MS Teams; and originality-check software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate.

Collaborate with other faculty and staff to create a supportive learning environment.

Produce and share original creative work, such as workshops, educational resources, and conference presentations or papers.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or a related writing-intensive field from an accredited university.

Minimum bachelor's degree GPA of 3.50.

Alternatively, a BA or BS in other fields may be acceptable if the candidate has a graduate degree in English, writing, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or a related writing-intensive field from an accredited university, with a graduate GPA of at least 3.75.

Writing coaches with bachelor’s degrees in a science, technology, or engineering field are encouraged if they also possess a master’s degree in a field listed above, or have commensurate professional experience in a writing-related field.

At least four years of experience working directly with university students to improve their writing and critical thinking skills.

At least two years of teaching experience in writing and critical thinking at the graduate or undergraduate level. Preference is given to those with teaching awards.

Demonstrated knowledge of English-language, academic-writing fundamentals.

Familiarity with basic academic norms, such as citation styles and methods for avoiding plagiarism, producing original work, evidence-based research, and reasoned debate.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Master’s degree in English, writing, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or a related writing-intensive field from an accredited university.

Proficiency with computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, videoconferencing, and file sharing.

Production of original creative work, such as a published article, undergraduate or graduate thesis, or work in an edited volume.

Evidence of strong teamwork and collaboration to reach mutual goals.
-
Ability to independently coordinate and report on educational projects/efforts involving groups of peers and students.
-
Experience or familiarity with teaching English as a second language.
Compensation Range:
•30-35/hour. Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
