Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a Youth Facility Assistant Director 1, G-21 or one year of satisfactory professional experience* at a G-23 or above; or two years of satisfactory professional experience* at a G-20 or above; or three years at G-17 or above; or a satisfactory equivalent combination of the above experience.*Qualifying experience must have been gained in OCFS facility based positions, or in OCFS central office positions having substantial responsibility for the support of OCFS operated residential programs.OROne year of satisfactory professional experience* at a G-24/M-1 or above; or two years of professional experience at G-23 or above; or three years at a G-20 or above.*Qualifying experience must have been gained in a New York State operated residential care/custody facility for adult correctional, juvenile mental health or forensic mental health clientele or in a central office or field office unit of the Department of Correctional Services or the office of Mental health and must have been gained in positions having substantial responsibility for the support of residential care/custody programs for adult correctional, juvenile mental health or forensic mental health programs. Acceptable functional experience areas are security counseling, education, recreation and medical. In whichever setting, at least one year of the required experience must have included responsibility for second level supervision or supervision of professional staff.ORBachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience in a residential care/custody facility for adult correctional, juvenile correctional, juvenile mental health or forensic mental health clientele, which has included responsibility for the overall direction of a discrete major function within the facility. Acceptable functional experience areas are security, counseling, education, recreation and medical. Two years of the required experience must have included responsibility for the supervision of professional level staff.
Duties Description Assist in directing the operations of a residential facility for the care, education and counseling of adjudicated juvenile delinquents and other court-placed youth. Share on-site, on-call responsibilities with the Facility Director.Maintain a safe and secure environment for residents and staff Provide leadership, management and direction in conjunction with and in the absence of the Facility Director. Supervise subordinate staff in the administration of education, recreation, and work programs, and mentor and guide youth. Assist in the establishment and maintenance of harmonious community relations, including as a spokesperson in the community for the facility and for OCFS.Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
