POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The YMCA is seeking an Adaptive Program Instructor who will be responsible for working with children/teens to promote the enjoyment of various engaging activities while improving physical competence, developing confidence and teaching basic skill development, while also providing outstanding hospitality to ensure a positive user experience. The Program Instructor will serve as a resource for participants to achieve exercise goals, skill goals and a sense of well-being.

$20.00 - $30.00

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement all components of program offered including but not limited too; sports, art, music and dance.
- Develop and teach class curriculum appropriate for members with developmental, cognitive, and physical diverse abilities.
- Know and follow the core values of the YMCA-caring, respect, responsibility and honesty with members, families, co-workers, other facility staff and volunteers.
- Use best practices for individual and group engagement and behavior redirection, report member behavior issues to Supervisor.
- Relate to the students with respect, love, kindness, and concern. Always be ready to listen, and to provide each member with positive input to build a healthy self- image.
- Maintain cleanliness and efficiency of Center/facility and any equipment.
- Provide a fun, safe and positive experience for all participants and create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Provide supervision of the participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines (i.e. ratio, attendance).
- Work with the supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each program session.
- Teach rules, fundamentals and enhance basic skills. Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.
- Create an atmosphere in which all participants can have fun, are safe and learn the importance of good sportsmanship.
- Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe and in proper working condition. This includes conducting monthly equipment safety checks.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding the progress of their child/teen and registration for the next session.
- Communicate to parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them or their child/teen.
- Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate actions for emergency situations.
- In order to enhance the overall operation of the YMCA of Greenwich and to support teamwork, I will accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum one (1) year experience teaching children/teens sports in a structured setting.
- Content expert in designated sports activity.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
- Coaching certificate or equivalent desired.
- Current First Aid / CPR certifications.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
