POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Sports Assistant Coach is a year-round program serving youth 5-12 years of age. Programs predominantly include basketball, baseball, and wrestling among others. The assistant coach is responsible for the development and implementation of youth sports curriculum and leading programming sessions. The Youth Sports Assistant Coach facilitates relationship-based, quality programs and instructional camps that deeply engage members in the YMCA.

- You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
- Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Organizes, plans and delivers an inclusive curriculum of fundamentals for basketball, baseball and wrestling for all members and participants at all ability levels.
- Instructs sports-related rules and procedures for the following sports: basketball, baseball and wrestling. Some sports require more expert knowledge (basketball, baseball, and wrestling).
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with both student athletes and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures regarding but not limited to emergency and safety. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Facilitates sports camp programming.
- Organizes and maintains needed class supplies and equipment. Reports damaged equipment promptly.
- Responsible for preparation of sports fields, gyms and courts, including equipment set-up and quality checks to ensure safe facilities are provided to YMCA members and guests.
- Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
- Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
- Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 18 years old.
- Background in wrestling with a minimum of 2 years of organized high school or above play preferred.
- Experience coaching or working with youth preferred.
- Ability to obtain all necessary coaching certifications within 30 days of hire including Connection Based Coaching – Team USA and other sport-specific certifications.
- Ability to oversee, motivate and inspire youth.
- Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days.
- Praesidium Academy trainings.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

$15.00 per hour
