About the Job
The position of Zamboni Driver/Ice Technician is responsible for the ice rink, proper safe operation of the ice resurfacer (Zamboni), maintenance of all areas pertaining to and or involved in maintaining a quality sheet of ice for a professional hockey team. The ice technician will report to the head ice technician.
This role will pay an hourly wage of $20.00 to $30.00.

Responsibilities:- Prepare ice for all practices, games, and other ice events. Duties include removing debris; checking ice depth; scraping, edging and resurfacing ice.
- Participate in set-up and disassembly of hockey glass, dasher boards, rubber runners, locker rooms and other event related equipment as needed.
- Perform pre/post event inspections and document with completed checklists.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance on ice operations equipment, keep work areas and equipment organized and functional.
- Ensure all equipment and tools necessary to fulfill ice maintenance tasks are always available and in good working order.
- Report to the Head Ice Technician any equipment deficiencies.
- Ability to problem solve and think/act quickly when issues arrive.
- Ability and willingness to climb a stepladder up to 20 feet, or a mechanical lift to 50 feet.
- Operate and maintain ice resurfacing machines, ice edger and all related equipment for the installation and maintenance of a quality sheet of ice.
- Install and remove dasher ads as necessary.
- Install, repair, and replace acrylic shielding as necessary.
- Install, repair, and remove dashers as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of ice thickness, ice temperatures, humidity readings, ambient air readings and dew point readings.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all ice related equipment as needed.
- Keep ice room and all related areas clean and orderly.
- Job reliability, diligence, dedication, and attention to detail a must.
- Flexibility with work schedule- Nights, weekends, and holidays required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- 2+ years’ experience operating a Zamboni ice resurfacer.
- Experience driving in tandem during ice cuts.
- General knowledge of the game of ice hockey and its terms, preferred.
- Ability to read and write and to follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Ability to concentrate in a high stress, noisy game situations with promotions and thousands of people in attendance.
- Must have availability on Friday & Saturday evenings (5pm), Sunday afternoons (1pm), and occasional other weekday evenings (5pm).
- As a condition of employment, qualified applicant will be subject to a background check, including driving history and character references along with drug screening.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, possess a suitable driving history and be insurable by our insurance carrier (without conditions).
- Essential Physical Functions:
- Good physical condition and health, sufficient strength and stamina needed for heavy, awkward, and repeated lifting of up to 75 pounds, capable of occasionally performing heavy manual labor.
- Ability to climb portable and fixed ladders up to 20 feet, accessing remote areas of the facility, working with hand and power tools, communicating via portable radio.
- Ability to work with and around water and ice and to work at or below freezing temperatures for extended periods of time.
- Wearing face mask and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for long periods of time based on current protocols.
Equipment Used:
- Ice resurfacers, ice edger, and all other ice maintenance equipment.
- PC and other general office equipment.
- Various power and hand tools.
