Position Summary:
The UCLA Department of English is widely recognized as one of the leading English departments in the nation. It is the largest academic department within the UCLA Humanities Division. This position is responsible for managing all academic, academic apprentice, staff, and student payroll/personnel policy and procedures for the Department of English and Writing Programs. Manage the entire human resources process including academic personnel for approximately 60 faculty, 50 non-Senate faculty, 50 academic apprentice personnel, 18 career staff and 10 work-study students. Major responsibilities include implementing and interpreting academic personnel policy and academic collective bargaining agreements; advising the Chair and the faculty about requirements; creating and maintaining confidential academic personnel files; managing benefits for all department employees; reconciling payroll; making recommendations on hiring based on budget; and supervising and delegating projects to other personnel and payroll staff. Incumbent must also serve as preparer for all Senate faculty and staff appointments, process all visas, benefits, terminations and other related human resources actions for all employees within both departments. Additionally, incumbent serves as primary reviewer and backup preparer for all non-Senate faculty and academic apprentice actions. The Academic and Staff Personnel Manager also provides analytical support to the chair, vice chairs, faculty committees, and CAO to meet departmental goals relating to personnel and payroll policies and procedures. The Academic and Staff Personnel Manager is a high traffic, high profile position where the occupant must have a mastery of all aspects of human resources, academic personnel policies, and academic collective bargaining agreements.

Demonstrated skill in using MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access and a demonstrated working knowledge of Windows Operating System. Ability to learn new programs for core business functions as necessary. (Required)Ability to compose, edit, and proofread departmental reports, memos, and correspondence with great details and accuracy; knowledge of standard English grammar, punctuation, prose style and correspondence, list and manuscript formats.
