Position Summary

The Academic Advisor will be responsible for assisting her/his advisees in their design, implementation, and fulfillment of each advisee's vocational aspirations. Additionally, the Advisor will collaborate closely with program directors, faculty, and staff within the CUWAA graduate programs to advocate for a student-centered approach in the holistic development of her/his advisees.

The Academic Advisor - Graduate Programs reports to the Director - Center for Academic Advising & Career Engagement and collaborates closely with the Campus Dean's of CUWAA School of Education and Arts & Sciences. This position requires a normal eight hour workday; however, as a salaried position; the Academic Advisor will need to work extended hours, including some weekend and evening events, to meet the demands of the job.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Support - Program Advisees

• Mentor students in the establishment and implementation of reasonable academic goals
• Monitor student academic progress towards the fulfillment of their respective goals
• Develop advisees' ability to define, understand, and articulate the logic of their curriculum
• Teach advisees to analyze and own their educational choices as the foundation for their holistic development
• Provide outreach to all advisees using email, phone, social media, and face-to-face, sharing information pertinent to their academic program and vocational pursuits
• Develop advisees' self-advocacy skills and ability to identify, strategize, & overcome adversity in academic and co-curricular collegiate pursuits
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of available campus resources and support services to help advisees overcome obstacles to their success
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of academic policies including, but not limited to, the programs advised by this position, core requirements, and general academic policies
• Attend department faculty meetings
• Maintain a high standard of conscientious, courteous, enthusiastic, and professional service
• Other duties as assigned

Academic Support - Coaching and Risk Intervention

• Mentor students who are deemed at-risk
• Maintain high level of responsiveness to the Early Alert System
• Proactively connect students who are in academic jeopardy with the appropriate support systems

Projects, Advocacy, and Service

• Collaborate with stakeholders to implement changes for effective programming
• Develop expertise within one or more areas of nationally recognized Advising practices
• Contribute to department student experience initiatives as assigned
• Maintain technological proficiency: Banner, Blackboard, Outlook, Degree Works, Navigate

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree required
