Position Description:
Reporting to the executive director of marketing, the academic marketing manager will develop, create, and execute brand-relevant multichannel marketing communication campaigns, focusing on increasing the recognition and reputation of Valparaiso University's academic programs and initiatives. The academic marketing manager is the primary liaison between University Marketing and academic units and will work closely with and provide support for deans, department chairs, program directors, and program administrators on communications for prospective students, alumni, community members, and peer institutions. The academic marketing manager will support a culture of inclusion and shared community-building that welcomes and engages multiple voices and perspectives, leading with examples of work that reflect our mission and values. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with a minimum of two days per week in-person. This role offers a pay rate of $50,000- $60,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement academic marketing content for print and digital communications to increase brand awareness, drive engagement, and support enrollment goals. Includes short- and long-form copywriting; conducting interviews; and packaging written and visual content relevant to prospective undergraduate and graduate students.
- Lead both tactical conversations with faculty contacts and strategic conversations with departmental leadership. Create relationships with key stakeholders including program leadership, college staff, faculty, and student groups to solicit and develop stories for external and internal audiences.
- Work with program/college staff, faculty, or students to create and publish content for program-based webpages and social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) including event promotion, work/research opportunities, live coverage of events, and external or co-curricular partnerships as appropriate.
- Create academic-related social media content for university channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok) and support social media team with posting, monitoring, and reporting as needed.
- Stay current with the latest marketing trends and make recommendations to enhance Valpo's awareness and perception. Identify marketing opportunities that create value for the University.
Knowledge and Skills:
- University degree in marketing/business administration or related discipline OR equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 3-6 years experience working in marketing, communications, social media, or advertising, with preference given to candidates with previous higher education experience
- Exceptional written and verbal skills, with a solid portfolio that demonstrates skill in analysis, creativity, writing, and creating compelling stories and narratives across platforms to different target audiences
- Strong skills creating and sharing content on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and emerging platforms
- Proficient in the following: Google Suite, Google Ads, Meta Ads, and major social media platforms
- Solid knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, or other media editing software
- Self-starter with excellent project management abilities who is able to shepherd projects from concept to completion with marketing goals, timelines, and deliverables, enlisting the support and enthusiasm of others in the process
- Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
- High degree of discretion
- Proven track record of working well with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff with a high degree of cultural competence
Other Qualifications:
- Knowledge of higher education admissions and enrollment funnel
- Experience building communications within a CRM such as Slate Technolutions
- Knowledge and experience with social media management platforms such as Sprout Social
