+ Iowa Teaching License, Sub Authorization or Sub License is required
+ Preferred Qualifications: Background in working with children who have experienced trauma, background in working with children in residential placements
Duties:
+ Teaching Subbing:
+ Provide classroom instruction based on the teacher's lesson plans.
+ Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment.
+ Assist students with assignments and questions to ensure learning continues smoothly.
+ Collaborate with other teachers or staff as needed, especially for students with specific educational or behavioral needs.
+ Communicate with the regular teacher, providing notes about what was covered and any concerns.
+ Associate Subbing:
+ Support classroom teachers by working with small groups or individual students as directed.
+ Assist in supervising students during non-classroom times (lunch, recess, transitions).
+ Help with the organization and preparation of materials for classroom activities.
+ Provide one-on-one support for students with IEPs or behavioral challenges, following guidelines from the teacher or interventionist.
Priorities
+ Adaptability – Be prepared to step into various roles at a moment’s notice, whether in a general classroom or support capacity.
+ Communication – Maintain clear and consistent communication with the regular teacher or classroom staff to understand expectations and relay important updates.
+ Classroom Management – Implement positive behavior strategies, manage student behavior effectively, and follow established protocols for students with IEPs or behavioral plans.
+ Support for Special Education – Prioritize assistance for students with IEPs, helping them with academic tasks, behavior management, and engagement, as directed by teachers or special education staff.
Tasks When No One is Absent
+ Classroom Prep Support:
+ Help teachers prepare materials, set up classroom spaces, or organize supplies.
+ Assist with bulletin boards, organizing classroom libraries, or prepping lesson materials.
+ Student Support:
+ Provide additional academic or behavioral support to students who may need one-on-one or small-group instruction.
+ Offer to support during intervention times by assisting in reading groups, math centers, or other instructional activities.
+ Behavioral Support:
+ Assist in monitoring students with behavioral needs, either during instruction or non-instructional times (lunch, recess).
+ Help staff with implementing behavior intervention plans, especially during high-stress or transition periods.
+ Supervision:
+ Provide coverage during recess, lunch, or arrival/dismissal times if extra supervision is needed.
+ Support in hallways during transition times to help ensure safety and order.
+ Life Skills Room or Special Activities:
+ Engage students in activities in the life skills room (e.g., cooking, budgeting, or social skills).
+ Collaborate with teachers on special projects, buddy partnerships, or enrichment activities like games or creative projects.
+ Professional Development:
+ Take the opportunity to attend professional development or familiarize themselves with school protocols, behavior management strategies, or special education processes.
