About the Job
The Accountant role accurately prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, quarterly and annual payroll tax returns, and supports preparation of the financial statements on a timely basis to key decision makers in the organization. The Accountant also provides financial analysis recommendations to the Controller and CFO relating to variance analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis. Additionally, the Accountant partners with the Payroll/Benefits Administrator to review and approve timesheets, prepare payroll, and reconcile employee benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Supports internal consolidated financial statement preparation with Controller and Accountant.
• Posts adjusting journal entries and reconciles balance sheet accounts.
• Performs financial statement analysis and communicates recommendations to Controller and CFO.
• Produces supporting accounting schedules and collaborates with external auditors during the annual corporate, 401(k), and ESOP audits.
• Partners with Payroll/Benefits Administrator to review and approve timesheets, prepare bi-weekly payrolls, and reconcile employee benefits.
• Creates and submits quarterly payroll tax returns.
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
• Maintains accounting and inventory of files kept in storage. Assures that the company follows consistent labeling practices and follows IRS mandated disposal schedules.
• Provides analysis on other projects as required.
• Follows safety policies as outlined in the Safety Manual.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Excellent analysis, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Solid working knowledge of internal controls, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Excellent keyboarding skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
