About the Job
COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, the accountant must:
Have strong attention to detail, able to pick out small discrepancies and understand the need for accuracy and nuance.
Be knowledgeable of GAAP, particularly in a non-profit environment and have experience with reconciling balance sheet accounts and month end close procedures.
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Possess strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
Be able to interact with people at several different levels in the university, both with and without any experience with financial reporting, in a professional manner.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and variances.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Accountant must communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, with a focus on accounting, finance, or general business.
Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week on occasion.

The employee must occasionally lift computer reports weighing up to 10 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move boxes of records or files weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to converse with staff members, and students.
