Department Summary
The UNT System Payroll department manages payroll, time and labor, direct deposit, W-2 forms, and W-4 forms for the University of North Texas, the UNT Health Science Center, the University of North Texas at Dallas, and the University of North Texas System Administration.
Position Overview
Under direction of the Associate Director, performs accounting, analysis, reconciliation, and process and policy interpretation. Knowledge of a wide range concepts, including accounting principles; governmental accounting standards; university campus academic/staff personnel policies; federal, state local tax law regulation; multiple retirement plans; and University Payroll System. This division is responsible for all Payroll Accounting operations has ultimate authority for the integrity of reportable data for the Systems four institutions: UNT, UNT at Dallas, the UNT Health Science Center, and UNT System Administration and plays an important role in UNT Systems financial accounting, reporting internal controls.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
* Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively.
* Experience working in one or more functional areas of accounting
* Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and accounting practices
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills
* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of financial modules of an ERP software system (PeopleSoft).Experience reading and interpreting laws/regulations for compliance. State of Texas experience in a public institution of higher education.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Serves as the lead staff person responsible for management and reconciliation of payroll accounts. Serves as the key resource in the unit to be called on to develop and recommend policies and procedures for financial reporting and analysis and directing numerous special assignments.
- Reconciles employee deduction and suspense accounts, prepares journal entries as needed.
- Assists with yearly external audit. Complete fluctuation analysis for auditors when requested.
- Create JEs for bank deposits.
- Coordinate and file deposits with various agencies.
