Job Summary:
The Real Estate Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, cash flow, and other related financial activities.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure all bills, invoices and monthly obligations are paid on a timely basis.
- Perform processing of monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries
- Prepare and analyze budgets and forecasts to actual variance reports
- Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable, intercompany accounts, asset accounts and liability accounts
- Prepare monthly internal and external financial statements, cash forecasts and budgets
- Assist in preparing replacement reserve draw requests from mortgage companies
- Prepare and assist with year-end tax and audit workpapers
- Prepare periodic loan compliance reporting for Lenders
- Ensure vendor records are complete and assist with annual 1099 preparation
- Assist in uploading and recording financial information into MRI for new acquisitions and property management clients
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, finance or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- Licensed CPA is preferred but not required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training and Experience:
- Non-profit accounting and/or affordable housing and real estate experience preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting for property management firm or construction company
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/engagements and the confidence to question existing processes
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (advanced Excel user)
- Proficiency with MRI Affordable is preferred. Knowledge of AvidXchange is a plus
- Attention to detail and respect for confidentiality
- Ability to synthesize data and make complex information understandable
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles
- Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and people skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others to achieve goals
- Self-starter
- Detail-oriented
