Accountant I - Accounts Payable & Travel - MD Anderson

Summary
The primary purpose of this Accountant I position is to perform the employee reimbursement process using the institutional application for travel and other expense reporting.
Key Functions
Reviews and research invoices in detail and forwards to the appropriate queues for resolution. Liaison between supervisors, AP team members, and/or buyers to resolve aged and discrepant invoices, with weekly reporting to supervisors
Perform exception processes identified by the departmental management, such as, but not limited to reconciling vendor statements and remedying items flagged and routed to the AP Hot queue.
Responsible for communicating with departments and vendors to ensure correct processes are in place to facilitate vendor payments. Must be able to work independently, and with limited or no supervision to ensure the timely and accurate processing of transactions.
Participate in professional development through attendance at professional development programs, educational activities, and review of current professional resources.
Function as a backup to the Travel Services team by resolving employee inquiries on the use of the travel and expense application, travel and employee reimbursement policies, fund expenditure guidelines, and policies governing other transactions within the Controller's Office.
Performs special projects/other duties as assigned.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience:
Required: With a degree in Business Administration, one year of experience is required. With a degree in Accounting, no experience is required. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Experience in accounts payable, invoices, reconciliation, Microsoft, Peoplesoft accounting. Skills needed are attention to detail, excellent communication, dependable, self starter and problem solver.
