We are seeking a Full-Time Accountant II to join our team in the accounting industry. As Accountant II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial records and transactions. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining our company's financial health and enabling us to make informed business decisions. You will be responsible for providing accurate, complete, and timely financial data for management review. Supports day to day accounting operations, applying departmental policies and procedures. Assists with monthly close process to support complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting.
DEGESCH America, Inc. (DAI) was founded in 1977 and is the United States arm of German based Detia Degesch Group. Our corporate headquarters and production facility are situated in the Shenandoah Valley town of Weyers Cave, Virginia. This facility opened on March 15, 1979, and is the only producer of aluminum phosphide (Phostoxin®) and magnesium phosphide (Magtoxin®) fumigants in the United States. Through our nationwide network of Sales and Service Offices we provide a wide range of fumigants, insecticides, rodenticides, grain protectants, safety equipment and training to companies handling raw agricultural commodities and finished food products.
Responsibilities
- Prepares financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule for assigned companies.
- Facilitates and completes monthly closing procedures.
- Assists with billing for all US locations.
- Executes the collections process, contacting customers to resolve past due balances.
- Executes reconciliation of general ledger accounts, bank statements.
- Processes payroll, working closely with HR and managers.
- Reviews payroll tax reporting and filings against ledger reports to ensure accuracy and timely filing/reporting by payroll processor.
- Assists with accounts payable process as needed.
- Assists with accounts receivable as needed.
- Reviews and files state sales taxes; maintains tax exempt information.
- Prepares or pulls information for auditors as required.
- Maintains various accounting spreadsheets.
- Assists in project management of various accounting automation and efficiency projects. Supports training and rollout efforts to ensure project and departmental success.
Requirements and skills
- Responsible for maintaining company accounting systems by properly entering data into accounting systems.
- Maintains regular contact with all company personnel to obtain and convey information and/or to correct transactions.
- Research, tracks and resolves (or properly refers) accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
- Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
- Competency in MS Office, databases, and accounting software
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers
- Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks
- Data entry and word processing skills
- Well organized
- Associate's degree in accounting or business
- Relevant certification is a plus
