GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Technical Accounting and Internal Controls Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the Division’s compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and for the appropriate reporting of these matters to management. This role is an individual contributor reporting directly to the Controller.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
• Support and assist the Controller with technical accounting research of complex, unusual and/or significant transactions, provide technical accounting guidance across all functions ensuring compliance with applicable GAAP, and internal controls, and provide findings to management, including participating in discussions with external auditors.
• Assist with the assessment and documentation of the accounting impact and required disclosures for major corporate events or transactions, including significant contracts, acquisitions, debt, and equity offerings other one-off transactions. Collaborate with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters and support finance teams to ensure proper accounting and disclosure along with documentation of accounting memos as appropriate.
• Facilitate the documentation and maintenance of the global accounting policies manual, including communication and implementation of new policies throughout the organization.
• Liaise and assist with the coordination of external auditors during quarterly and annual financial audits.
• Collaborate with business operators and the FP&A team to understand budget implications and implement planning strategy for accounting issues.
• Assist with the identification of accounting and disclosure issues, including benchmarking of disclosure practices and recommendations to management.
• Ensure financial statements are in accordance with GAAP.
• Remain current through training and other events on applicable technical accounting and internal controls issues.
• Support all close and reporting activities as part of the financial reporting team.
• As necessary, assist with special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
• 3-5 years progressive, related experience.
• Demonstrated strong technical accounting skills.
• Prior public accounting and industry experience a plus.
• Proficiency in Excel required.
• JD Edwards, AS400, Showcase Query experience a plus.
• Advanced working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with internal controls compliance required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in agricultural, distribution, and manufacturing operations a plus.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Normal physical requirements for an office environment.
• Requires employee to sit regularly and occasionally lift (including overhead) up to 15 lbs.
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work overtime on close weeks.
Required Experience
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
• B.A. or B.S. in Accounting or Finance
• CPA certification a plus
PAY RATE:
- $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 Annually
