About the Job
Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA, a leader among the nation's independent associate degree colleges, has an immediate opening for an Accounting Assistant. This position requires attention to detail and a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. The Accounting Assistant will report to the Controller and helps with various processes and analyses, financial reporting, statements, reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Compile, and help to analyze and interpret financial data
- Help to post cash receipts on a daily basis. Ensure receipts are correctly coded to general ledger
- Reconcile room and board charges to the student information system and general ledger
- Prepare student loans schedules for the month end close
- Participate in preparing schedules for the month end close and annual audit
- Assist with review of departmental budgets monthly and variance analysis
- Prepare and process journal entries
- Assist on the monthly financial statement analysis for the Controller
- Processing accounts payable and receivable transactions
- Assisting with month-end close procedures
- Help prepare other financial reports and statements
- Reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts
- Assisting with budget preparation and analysis
- Works closely with other offices to reconcile transactions and resolve discrepancies
- Performing other accounting duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications / Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 2 years or more of accounting experience
- Strong attention to detail and customer service
- Strong computer skills –Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Experience with various accounting software packages, experience with PowerCampus or Great Plains is a plus
- Experience or internship in public accounting, Nonprofits, or Higher education is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills
