Job Summary:
The Accounting Assistant/Manager will provide essential support to the accounting department by performing a variety of daily accounting, bookkeeping, and financial tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, leadership abilities, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, reports, and statements.
Perform daily bookkeeping tasks including data entry, recording transactions, and managing accounts payable and receivables.
Reconcile bank statements and ensure accuracy in financial records.
Process payroll, including calculating hours, verifying employee data, and preparing payroll reports.
Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
Prepare and process invoices, bills, and other financial documents.
Assist in the preparation of tax documents and other regulatory filings.
Respond to and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
Maintain a well-organized filing system for financial records.
Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
Make collection calls to clients that are past due.
Review and process weekly billing for VA, Insurance, and all other clients.
Research VA rejections or short payments and resubmit as necessary.
Follow up with insurance companies to ensure we have all information for billing.
Processing of new hires documentation (Direct deposit, I9 etc. ).
Qualifications:
Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred).
Proven experience as an accounting assistant, bookkeeper, or similar role.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks and Google Office Suite (particularly Google Sheets).
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of non-medical home care industry practices and regulations is a plus.
