About the Job
Position Purpose and Objectives:
The Accounting Clerk will assist with monthly financial processes including processing payables and receivables, serving as contract billing coordinator, and leading the fare collection and reconciliation. This position will also be responsible for maintaining BCRTA’s asset files and related spreadsheets and software applications. This is a hands-on position that will require working with other BCRTA team members directly including the Finance team and members of other departments on data tracking and other tasks.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs all duties related to the reconciliation of fares for MTS and BCRTA including counting of collected fares and maintaining a counting schedule.
Processes payables and receivables.
Coordinates collection of aging receivables.
Corrects or adjusts operational data for client billing as needed for billing and audit purposes.
Performs monthly bank reconciliations and coordinates the transfer of funds as needed.
Manages agency fixed asset records.
Maintains accurate employee asset records.
Maintains secure, accurate data on contract clients.
Maintains accounting controls and financial security by following internal controls, and all policies and procedures.
Secures financial and contract information by completing data backups and maintains secure physical organizational records consistent with retention guidelines adopted by the organization.
Maintains BCRTA’s fare media inventory and is responsible for tracking tickets as needed.
Maintains organizational confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
Works with supervisor as requested in preparing special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
Communicates clearly and works with customers to solve problems, educate riders, and improve BCRTA service.
Maintains composure and acts thoughtfully under pressure.
Promotes a positive public image of BCRTA and exceeds customer expectations.
Attends training as required.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:
One year in financial management, accounting, accounts payable/accounts receivable desired. Some transit, government, or non-profit experience is highly desired.
Education:
High School diploma required.
Some higher education preferred.
