About the Job
The mission of Laurel House is to advocate for and empower those impacted by domestic
violence by providing crisis intervention, safe haven, appropriate programs and resources
and to advance social change through preventive education and through community
training and collaboration to foster a coordinated response to domestic violence.
Laurel House is dedicated to the vision of ending domestic violence in each life, home,
and community throughout Montgomery County. Our first program, established in 1980,
was a domestic violence shelter for abused women and their children. In addition to
emergency shelter, Laurel House offers a 24-hour hotline, transitional housing, individual
and group counseling, legal representation as well as community education and
prevention efforts.
We are currently seeking an Accounting Director who will be responsible for accuracy of the organization's financial records and has direct oversight and management of the Bookkeeping position. This position may be full-time (40 hours), or will consider part-time 30 to 32 hours per week.
- Responsible for accuracy of organization's accounting records, including review of general ledger reconciliations.
- Supervises the Bookkeeper.
- Manages AP and AR functions as needed.
- Manages the month-end and year-end closing process, including timely preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Performs cash flow planning and analysis.
- Assists in preparation of the annual budget and monitors budget to actual results.
- Works closely with others to provide meaningful data regarding the organization's financial position and spending against budget.
- Facilitate the external audit process.
- Maintain and enhance documentation of accounting policies and processes.
- Assist with grant management and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Assist fundraising efforts with financial data and analysis.
- Maintain relationships with banks, other financial institutions, and various funding sources.
- Initiate cost comparisons of utilities and services as needed.
Candidates should have a passion for the mission of Laurel House, have strong organizational and analytical skills and be excellent communicators. Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and have a minimum of 5 years experience in an accounting position with supervisory responsibilities. Experience working in a non-profit organization desired.
