We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview: As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our housing clients. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and collaborating with our staff, clients, and associates to support our overall business objectives. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in real estate/property management accounting, excellent analytical skills, HUD billing and compliance experience, commitment to high-quality performance with measurable results, and familiarity with the Yardi Voyager Property software.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for our clients.
- Analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and provide insights into property performance.
General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to property operations.
- Record and review journal entries to ensure accurate financial records.
- Complete year-end adjustments to prepare for each assigned client audit.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the development of property budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgeted figures and provide variance analysis.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Oversee accounts payable processes, including vendor compliance, data entry of invoices to supplement site location office payable functions, and completing check runs.
- Manage accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely rent collection and lease compliance.
HUD Billing and Compliance:
- Coordinate with properties to address compliance issues and ensure accurate submission of monthly Section 8 subsidy billings.
- Submit, post, and record associated HUD functions into the Yardi Accounting system.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, industry regulations, and company policies.
- Assist in audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with property management teams to address financial queries and provide support.
- Collaborate with other departments to improve overall financial processes.
Oversee and Direct:
- Assist with migration to a new platform, energy management, insurance renewals, broker/closing development and management, and other strategic goals for the Company.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience in property accounting functions in multifamily housing.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and real estate accounting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software, including Yardi Voyager and Microsoft Office/Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
