The Accounting Manager is responsible for preparing financial statements, which follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines. The position is also responsible for managing the accounting team, including day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing all transactions related to the general ledger, project cost sub-ledgers, receivables, payables, and payroll. The Accounting Manager will also manage the budget and forecasting process, oversee annual audits, and implement and maintain effective financial control processes and systems. The role requires strong people and process management focusing on the construction industry.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Preparation and review of monthly financial statements, including reconciling financials to the WIP report and preparing variance analyses.
- Creation and management of budgets for all departments to ensure fiscal health and responsibility.
- Coordination of inputs from Project Management staff on the cost progress forecasts for ongoing projects.
- Oversee the monthly job cost report process with the Vice President of Project Management and project managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated work-in-progress reports for internal and external use.
- Perform due diligence and create projections with different scenarios on growth opportunities as needed.
- Prepare the annual financial budget and update the forecasts every quarter.
- Monitor accounting transactions throughout the month and resolve any issues that occur in the process daily.
- Prepare and assist with monthly bank reconciliations and intercompany allocations (A/P).
- Work closely with the Project Managers and Business Unit Leaders to assist them with subcontracts, insurance issues, and job cost details.
- Collaborate with accounts payable to review and approve payment requests (invoices, check requests forms, etc.).
- Prepare and support financial results for presentation as needed.
- Support a timely and efficient annual financial audit/review, statutory tax filings, and general corporate compliance.
- As needed, meet with the company’s bankers and bonding company to review financial results and forecasts.
- Work on a variety of different projects throughout the month that are delegated by the CFO and Company leadership.
