Vaxart is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a range of oral recombinant vaccines based on its proprietary delivery platform. Vaxart vaccines are administered using convenient room temperature-stable tablets that can be stored and shipped without refrigeration.
Vaxart believes that its proprietary pill vaccine delivery platform is suitable to deliver recombinant vaccines, positioning the company to develop oral versions of currently marketed vaccines and to design recombinant vaccines for new indications. Vaxart's development programs currently include pill vaccines designed to protect against coronavirus, norovirus and influenza, as well as a therapeutic vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), Vaxart's first immune-oncology indication. Vaxart has filed broad domestic and international patent applications covering its proprietary technology and creations for oral vaccination using adenovirus and dsRNA agonists.
Our mission is the promotion of global health through the development of effective vaccines that can be administered by tablet rather than by injection, providing for the simple and efficient distribution and administration of safe vaccines in any setting.
We are looking for a Accounting Manager, Government Reporting to join our South San Francisco team!
Summary:
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, the Accounting Manager, Government Reporting will work cross-functionally with business section leaders to track and evaluate day-to-day activities including establishing financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting information to provide periodic revenue and invoicing reports timely for close and within compliance with accounting policies and government compliance policies. This position requires an accounting manager that is highly organized and experienced in managing several requirements cross-functionally in a condensed timeframe to prepare, compile and validate complex revenue and invoicing information on a timely basis.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain project cost tracking reports daily by collaborating with business management and project managers to collect information and to ensure the reports are up to date.
- Analyze monthly project costs for government programs, monitor indirect rates, direct labor and vendors.
- Prepare revenue and invoice schedules with reconciliation to analysis for incurred project costs, in compliance with the government contract allowable costs, allocable costs, indirect rates and within the stated government contract budget.
- Collaborate with R&D Accounting Manager, Project Managers, business section leaders and others as required to complete monthly costs analysis timely for month-end close for revenue and invoicing.
- Actively support accounting policies, government contract policies and procedures to ensure all transactions are executed accurately, on time, and in accordance with company policies.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, government cost accounting methods, policies, and principles with management
- Ensure compliance with the company's SOX control program by performing in accordance with the Company's SOX policies and procedures.
- Annual audit and Quarterly review: Work closely with the accounting team and 3rd party auditors and tax preparers to analyze and provide accurately and timely requests as necessary.
- A resource to the accounting and finance team while providing insight and visibility to protect the financial health of the Company.
- Design and document internal procedures supporting the accounting and finance functions as it relates to your areas.
- Prepare timely month-end close account reconciliations analyses and related journal entries for assigned accounts on a timely basis and according to the Company's close process. Reconciliations as related to project cost revenue and invoicing.
- Timely resolve any issues identified with proper level of management to timely review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Generate and maintain routine reports to facilitate financial analysis, budgeting, financial planning, and financial reporting as requested.
- Prepare annual filings as required.
- Constantly seek improvements to the accounting process while operating within the framework of the Company to streamline processes and leverage technology.
- May work on various accounting projects and reports and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 10 years in the Accounting or Finance profession with progressively increased responsibilities, including 3-5 years prior experience in management position.
- 2-3 years of cost accounting experience, or equivalent analytical cost tracking skillset.
- Highly organized self-starter with a sharp attention to detail with a focus on preserving the accuracy and completeness of data. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and consistently deliver on time.
- Ability to grasp strategic goals to execute tactical plans.
- Strong communication skills, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks.
- Advanced computer skills in MS Office and NetSuite.
- Strongly prefer prior experience working in a publicly traded company with SOX experience.
- Prior experience in the life sciences industry is preferred.
- Professional and positive attitude is a must.
- Must be able to work onsite in South San Francisco.
In accordance with California's Pay Transparency law, Vaxart's base salary range for this position is approximately $142,000 - $160,000 USD annually. The actual salary for this role will vary based on a variety of factors including education, job-related knowledge, and experience. This range does not include equity, benefits, bonuses, or other non-monetary compensation which may be included.
