Accounting Manager - Bishop

Bishop & Co. is seeking an Accounting Manager for a reputable, medium-sized credit union based in Honolulu. This role is ideal for candidates at the Controller, Director of Accounting, or Accounting Manager levels. The final title and responsibilities will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

Position Summary: We are looking for an experienced accounting leader to take on the role of Controller (or Director of Accounting or Accounting Manager), overseeing the entire accounting function of our client’s organization. This role involves strategic planning, financial analysis, and communication with senior management and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations while driving the financial health and performance of the credit union.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage accounting operations, including the preparation of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and implementation of controls.
• Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to senior management and the Board.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and other relevant laws.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, and daily accounting activities to support business objectives.
• Determines accounting and liquidity implications for material business decisions, including, but not limited to, asset liability management, investments, securities and cash flow/liquidity projections.
• Evaluate and improve internal control systems and accounting software as needed.
• Oversee tax compliance, transaction processing, and the Asset Liability Management (ALM) program and liquidity.
• Identify and mitigate risks to the credit union's balance sheet and ensure accurate reporting to the Asset Liability Committee and the Board.
• Direct regulatory, financial, and tax reporting with strict adherence to deadlines.
• Manage capital requests, budgeting processes, and relationships with external vendors and auditors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Lead, train, and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Monitor staff performance, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional relationships with banking and investment partners.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Years of experience required (commensurate with experience as listed per role):
  • Director of Accounting: 10-12 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience, including management of accounting functions.
  • Controller: 8-10 years
  • Accounting Manager: 6-8 years
• MBA preferred, but not required.
• Years of management experience required (commensurate with experience as listed per role):
  • Director of Accounting: 5 years of management experience, with a proven track record in leading teams.
  • Controller: 3-5 years
  • Accounting Manager: 6-8 years
• Deep knowledge of tax regulations, strategic planning, budgeting, AML, and BSA.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong experience with internal accounting controls.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Salary: (commensurate with experience as listed per role):

• Director of Accounting: $96,000 to $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience and approved budget.
• Controller: $81,000 to $104,000 annually, commensurate with experience and approved budget
• Accounting Manager: $67,500 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and approved budget

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii (In-office role)
