About the Job
Our Professional Services client in Houston Greenway Plaza area is looking for a n Accounting Manager to join their growing team. The Accounting Manager would lead a team of 2-4 accountants and would be over daily operations, which includes preparing and reviewing ledger entries and reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger system, producing financial statements, helping with regulatory reporting as needed, and other required duties. This is a key role as you will make an immediate impact as you will support the current and future growth of the organization. This role has a great work life balance (40 hour work week). This position is open due to growth.
Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for the effective and timely processing of required reports and expenditures in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures and applicable State and Federal laws.
- Drive and manage the full accounting team performance of the close process to meet tight deadlines
- Preparing GAAP financial statements, which includes data analysis, document preparation, integrity validation, and reconciliation processes
- Review/prepare quarterly, year-end statement and supplemental filings
- Provide regular review and analysis of balance sheets and income statement accounts owned by the Senior Accountants
- Lead and supervise the accounting team performance during the closing process to ensure close deadlines are met
- Review/prepare month end close items, reconciliations and analysis
- Manage/assisting manage treasury, AR, AP functions
- Responsible for monthly expense accruals to support accurate monthly expense reporting on assigned GL accounts
- Analyze business unit financial statements monthly and develop variance explanations for distribution to management, comparison to actual, budget, and forecast
- Reconcile an assigned set of GL accounts monthly, proposing corrections as needed
- Responsible for researching and documenting policies for assigned GL accounts to ensure GAAP compliance for review and approval by management team
- Ensuring timely and accurate monthly review of all accounts
- Demonstrate strong understanding of process flows and internal controls
- Work with other departments to ensure that transactional activity is coded accurately, and financial reporting integrity is maintained
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required from an accredited college or university
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years of experience in managements of an accounting team handling complex accounting concepts
- CPA or MBA Preferred
- Public Accounting experience is preferred
- Demonstrated high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
- Must be able to work independently (with minimal supervision) to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects
- Must have strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
