Position Summary
As the Accounting Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the accounting of underwriting insurance activity. You are expected to use business acumen and strong analytical expertise to perform complex analysis and communicate financial results, accounting issues and business implications to management and other reporting groups. You are responsible for managing, mentoring, and developing a team of 4-5 staff members. You are expected to be proactive and manage efforts to continuously improve processes to ensure work is performed efficiently.
Essential Duties
Work closely with Underwriting and Finance Operations to develop in-depth knowledge of all product lines
Responsible for overseeing all associated accounting of underwriting insurance activity and manage a team of 4-5 staff members
Oversee reconciliation of underwriting accounts
Partner cross-functionally with Finance Operations (systems), Ceded Reinsurance, Actuarial, Underwriting and Treasury
Oversee the company's transaction processing systems and related closing process
Compute accurate and timely profit-share calculations for agent partners
Create complex management reports and associated analyses that explain financial results as well as investigate discrepancies and trends to identify drivers
Provide accurate and timely financial data necessary for the issuance of Statutory and US GAAP financial reports.
Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of internal and external auditors and regulators
Monitor and direct the implementation of Finance strategic initiatives
Mentor and develop the members of the finance team
Support internal and external auditor requests
Seek out and/or develop efficiencies and improve effectiveness by instituting best practices in processes
Help drive process improvement, including furthering the use of technology to automate or streamline existing processes and accelerate monthly close process
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Intimate working knowledge of accounting treatments in the P&C Insurance Industry.
In depth experience developing, leading, and retaining a highly qualified Accounting/Finance team.
Strong personal and business ethics consistent with the company’s core values
Demonstrated record of success in staff management
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
A hands-on management style and strong work ethic.
Highly motivated, proactive, detailed oriented
Ability to drive results.
Proven decision-making capabilities.

Experience interfacing in a geographically diverse organization at multiple levels of experience
