Job Summary: The Accounting Manager at this Christian church will oversee the church's financial operations, ensuring accurate accounting practices and compliance with relevant regulations. This role will support the mission of the church by providing transparent and responsible financial management, enabling effective stewardship of resources. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, a passion for the church’s mission, and excellent leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
Prepare, maintain, and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets.
Manage the church's accounting processes, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
Budgeting & Reporting:
Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget in collaboration with church leadership.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for church leadership and the congregation.
Compliance & Auditing:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as church policies.
Coordinate and facilitate annual audits and prepare necessary documentation.
Team Leadership:
Supervise accounting staff and provide training and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the finance team.
Financial Stewardship:
Promote financial stewardship principles among church members, encouraging responsible giving and transparent financial practices.
Work with church leadership to communicate financial status and needs to the congregation.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial management.
Stay current with accounting regulations and industry trends to ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
Experience in a nonprofit or church environment is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ACS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
