JOB SUMMARY:
This employee is responsible for coordinating and directing day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, and fixed assets & prepaids. Prepares periodic reports, reviews, and reconciles data, providing support to Controller & CFO with respect to monthly financial statement preparation and participates in the development of specialized financial data. Oversees and prepares entries and adjustments to credit union records, files, and statements. Coordinates with ACH/Payments team in reconciling the daily ACH processing with the accounting team's reconciliations. Directs, trains, supervises, and reviews accounting staff. Coordinates with other departments with respect to any related general ledger accounts or external reporting on behalf of the Credit Union.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the efficient and effective performance of Accounting Department functions.
- Ensure daily reconciliations are completed on-time and reconciling issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Manage initiation and monitoring of accounting procedures performed in departments throughout the credit union.
- Perform variance analysis for monthly closing and preliminary financial statement preparation.
- Assist the Controller and CFO in the preparation, monitoring, and analyzing of the Credit Union's financial plan (operating budget).
- Responsible for the development, maintenance, and implementation of department procedures in coordination with the Controller.
- Provide leadership to staff through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conduct staff meetings as needed and in coordination with Controller. Educate staff on policy, procedures, and legal changes, while promoting the enhanced learning and empowerment of the accounting staff.
- Ensure accounting staff effectively fulfill their position responsibilities, are well trained, and efficiently used. Identify training needs, develop relevant material, and implement appropriate programs. Conduct training sessions and cross-train as appropriate.
- Act as a support partner with the Controller and CFO, and ensure they are kept fully informed on the conditions and operations of the department, including areas of operations that need improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices specific to credit unions or financial institutions.
- Knowledgeable of regulatory requirements and compliance issues related to credit union operations, such as those set by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and other relevant financial regulatory bodies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization, self-starter, multi-tasker, and the ability to take initiative and meet priorities in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a member of an effective team, work with multiple departments and stakeholders, and to work under pressure while maintaining strong collaborative relationships across the organization.
- Knowledgeable of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Must have knowledge of office machines and equipment, be able to type, and have advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
- Demonstrate patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward staff, Members, and general public.
- Those in a leadership role are expected to participate in company meetings, community events, and similar engagements as ambassadors to the organization and its mission. These include voluntary and involuntary events that although ordinarily will be during business hours, does include weekends and evenings as announced.
- Job Related Travel - As required.
Education/Experience:
- Education or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or similar, plus 5 to 7 years' of progressively responsible experience.
- Must have at least 2 or more years of supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Some standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending and lifting.

- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
