SSPI is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and proactive Accounting Manager to join its team. This individual will play a critical role in supporting our mission by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with non-profit accounting standards, and providing actionable financial insights to the leadership team. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing monthly and year-end closings, and will contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), with the SSP appointed controller responsible for overseeing its day-to-day responsibilities and providing ongoing direction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process all financial transaction details (including but not limited to bank transactions, accounts payable, prepaids, and manual payroll allocations)
- Review all corporate credit card charges and expense reimbursements for discrepancies and compliance with policies, as well as ensure proper support is attached
- Reconcile bank and investment statements and general ledger transactions to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
- Prepare month-end reconciliation closing schedules for review
- Prepare and analyze monthly departmental financial statements and work with department heads to review monthly expenses for proper classification
- Prepare monthly cash flow statements and projections
- Perform ongoing financial analysis with the ability to communicate this information to various stakeholders with varying levels of financial knowledge.
- Develop and maintain accounting and financial policies and procedures, including internal control procedures
- Develop and implement systems for gathering, analyzing, verifying, and reporting certain types of financial information
- Monitor revenue and expenses weekly, and follow up with department heads as needed
- Recommend cost-saving measures to the CAO
- Together with the CAO, prepare and monitor SSPI’s annual budget
- In coordination with program and fundraising staff, create and monitor program budgets for grant proposals or internal initiative tracking, including:
- interpreting legislative and programmatic rules and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and contractual guidelines
- ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel
- monitoring compliance
- Prepare all schedules for the annual financial statement audit and tax returns
- Act as the main liaison with the external auditors and tax preparers
- Formulate a continuous risk management strategy
- Other duties may be assigned

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 5 years in an accounting or finance role, with at least 3 years in a non-profit organization
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, especially as it pertains to non-profit and fund accounting
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Familiarity with donor management or tuition management systems (e.g., Blackbaud) is a plus.
- Experience with grant accounting, restricted funds, and Form 990 compliance is preferred
