Delta Utilities is seeking a highly motivated and adaptable financial professional to join the growing team. The accounting policy and controls analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the company's financial reporting. This role involves developing and maintaining accounting policies, implementing internal controls, and preparing financial reports. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls over financial reporting, and a high level of analytical skills.
The ideal candidate must bewilling to step into a startup environment and help build financial reporting,internal controls over financial reporting, and accounting policies from theground up. This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, research, and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) rules
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent errors, and ensure accurate financial reporting
- Collaborate with other departments to design accounting processes, policies, and procedures
- Design, prepare, and analyze complex financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Prepare and assist in the timely production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements according to GAAP and regulatory rules
- Contribute to the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the company’s accounting system
- Provide guidance and support to accounting and other departments on policy interpretation and application
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits as needed
- Stay informed on industry regulations, accounting standards, and best practices relevant to gas utilities
- Provide financial information, analysis, and collaborate with other departments to ensure accounting policies are aligned with business objectives
- Provide support and guidance to accounting staff and other departments on accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Two to four years of experience in financial accounting; experience in public accounting is highly desirable
- Understanding of internal controls and GAAP
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Oracle) and familiarity with budgeting/forecasting tools (e.g., Excel)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn and apply financial data analysis
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Willingness to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous learning and development
