About the Job
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
It is understood that these duties shall be fulfilled to ensure all corporate goals are achieved.
1. Lead planned activities, games and events to encourage residents to use mental and physical faculties; provide group and individual instruction and hands-on support and guidance to residents; develop craft, music and rhythmic activities from own initiative or from resource materials; utilize word games, toys, floor games, listening tapes, slides and video to provide constructive stimulation and boost morale.
2. Talk with residents to encourage social interaction; listen and respond, encourage interchange of conversation among residents; monitor social interactions; distract attention from negative interactions and mediate potential or actual arguments; channel group attention to varied areas of interest and entertainment.
3. Meet with department Director to review planned activities, resolve problems and discuss needs of residents.
4. Review care plans; prepare progress notes to include description of services provided to resident and resident's response.
5. Read resource material to learn the nature and purpose of programs and activities for residential care for the elderly.
6. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop resident care plans and promote coordination services and activities.

V QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: An example of acceptable qualifications for this position is completion of high school degree or the equivalent, and additional specialized training or experience in long term care.
VI PHYSICIAL, LITERARY and REASONING ABILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:
Abilities:
Ability to demonstrate creativity in the development and design of program activities.
Ability to provide basic instruction through demonstration and hands-on assistance.
Ability to demonstrate patience and tact when dealing with an emotionally upset, angry or disoriented resident.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with nursing home residents and volunteers.
Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to include light lifting (0-14 lbs), pushing or pulling, bending, squatting,
reaching, assistance with ambulation and support of residents in the event of a fall.
Ability to interact effectively with residents and families to include demonstration of keen listening and observation skills.
Ability to prepare detailed notes and prepare accurate records.
Pay rate of $13.00 per hour
