SUMMARY
As an Activities Assistant/Driver, you will help plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive activities program; creativity and sensitivity are key elements of this position. You will be working with some residents living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and/or memory-impaired, with chemical dependency, or similar issues to ensure full engagement and make accommodations to the activity depending on the residents’ needs.
You may also be responsible for escorting residents to appointments, scheduled activities/events, shuttles to grocery stores, and any other activities that require transportation using company vehicles, while practicing safe driving procedures.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and plan engaging activities for residents.
- Build trusting, professional relationships with patients, families, and Care Partners.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while facilitating activities as scheduled on the calendar.
- Engage with residents in both small and larger group activities.
- Assess individual resident interests and convey them to the Activities Manager.
- Have a willingness to assist residents with their personal preferences for daily activities.
- Capable of collaborating with other departments to conduct meaningful resident engagement.
- Provide engaging and personalized one-on-one time with residents.
- Aid with documentation of assessments, participation records, and other information as required by the Activities Manager.
- Assist in the creation of community flyers and event postings.
- Rally residents to activities to ensure maximum engagement.
- Maintain an upbeat and positive attitude while leading and assisting with activities.
- Have some computer literacy to assist with flyers and newsletter publication, and some graphics knowledge.

- Ability to empathize and attend to resident concerns.
- May assist residents with some activities of daily living.
- Ability to move/lift equipment and assist residents into and out of vehicles, as well as help with ambulation.
- May be required to operate company vehicles and provide transportation to our residents and associates on occasion.
- Other duties may be assigned by your direct manager. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of high school education or GED or combination of related experience.
- Experience is preferred, but not necessary.
- Reasonable expectations of mathematical, technical, and reasoning skills to perform essential job responsibilities.
- Must be at least Twenty-One (21) years of age and has maintained a California Driver's License for a minimum of five (5) years.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English, so as not to jeopardize the safety and well-being of the residents.
- Ability to communicate with residents, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Remain professional and respectful, and interact with our customers – including residents, family members, and all staff members – according to the concepts identified by the Carlton Way.
- Must be able to use technology, such as company-provided phones and tablets, to communicate among staff on resident needs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must be authorized to work in the United States of America and provide sufficient work authorization documentation(s)
- DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance must be completed before working in the community (obtained through the community)
- Health screening/Physical and negative TB test must be less than six (6) months old (obtained through the community)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (obtained through the community)
- Must have obtained a CA Driver’s License and have had less than two (2) moving violations or less than two (2) accidents within the past 5 years.
- Must obtain and provide a DMV driving record prior to employment.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.
