Job Description
The Activities Assistant assists with quality of life for our residents. He/she plans and implements unit activity programs as well as assists and evaluates large group activities. This role supports the needs of our residents by adaptation to programs and offers educational, spiritual, exercise, mental and other forms of activities for the benefit of Lions Gate Residents.
Responsibilities
- Updates the Resident Activities Board daily and hangs calendars and special notices throughout campus per Director's request.
- Delivers newspapers, packages, mail, and email to residents in a timely manner.
- Prepares all supplies in readiness for activities as needed.
- Purchases and maintains program supplies and work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Reports broken equipment or other equipment needing to be purchased to Director of Activities.
- Provides 1 to 1 activities for residents who stay in their own room by choice or due to health reasons.
- Plans, develops, and implements programs on units and helps with large programs and functions.
- Encourages resident participation in group and individual activities including (but not limited to) arts and crafts, outings, religious services, intellectual/educational activities, community service, recreational, etc.
- Assists with organizing and supervision of volunteers.
- Assists with planning and implementing outings.
- May assist in Safe Haven (our Dementia Program) when need occurs.
- If required, takes turns caring for any animal that becomes a Lions Gate pet based on the state requirement of pet therapy, which includes, but is not limited to, feeding the animal, providing fresh water, cleaning litter box, or walking animal.
- Completes all documentation in a timely manner (state, federal, & departmental required).
- Actively participates in Care Plan meetings as an interdisciplinary team member and provides activity interventions on Care Plan goals.
- Provides written documentation of episodic notes on residents' care, achievements, decline, or other information that is pertinent to a resident's care and interdisciplinary communication.
- Performs other related duties directed by supervisor in a cooperative manner.
Qualifications
Minimum one year of experience in therapeutic recreation/activities in geriatric environment or working in a similar capacity with the elderly (preferred).
- Safety and customer service oriented.
- Must be an excellent communicator.
- Must maintain and obey the dietary laws for maintaining a Kosher environment in our community.
