Position Purpose:
The athletic director is pivotal for the success of our Christ-centered, discipleship-oriented mission. The AD will implement policies and procedures as stated in the athletic department handbook and oversee the department's day-to-day operations.
Expectations:
- Mission Alignment: Truly grasp and embrace HCA's mission statement, which is Christ-centered and discipleship-focused.
- Mature Christian Leader: Be a mature Christian (a believer for at least 10 years), grounded in biblical principles. As the representative of HCA to a wide variety of constituents and outsiders, the AD must display a deep maturity in their faith.
- Church Membership: Be an active member of a local evangelical church, preferably for 5+ years, where church members can vouch for your Christian character and influence on others.
- Mentorship/Discipleship: Have demonstrated experience as a Christian coach, mentor, or discipler.
- Bold Christian Identity: Be confident in their identity in Christ and demonstrate a willingness to stand firmly for biblical principles, especially related to how HCA competes and functions as a school.
- Leadership: Have a genuine desire to bring Christ-honoring and uplifting leadership to the school, staff, parents, and students. Demonstrate this leadership in athletics and physical education.
- Professionalism: Display a clear ability to interact effectively with peers, supervisors, and as a member of the school staff team.
- Family Situation: Be in a family situation that allows many evenings out of the home to support teams and coaches (this is to avoid causing undue pressure on young parents).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (Master's preferred).
- Coaching/Teaching Experience: Experience coaching or teaching, preferably at a Christian school.
- Extensive experience in school-based athletic programs, including 5 years of progressive responsibility, working within the school community and other athletic organizations.
- Possess or be eligible for Kansas certification, preferably in physical education for grades 7-12.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification within six months of employment.
- Additional experience or qualifications as determined by the Principal or Head of School.
Administrative Relationships:
- Reporting to the Upper School Principal, the Athletic Director will be continuously evaluated on performance in all areas of responsibility.
- Supervise and assist coaching personnel and athletic department volunteers.
- Serve as the representative of HCA to KSHSAA and other athletic organizations.
Athletic Program Responsibilities:
The AD will be directly responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and conducting the overall operations of the athletic department, including:
- Personnel: Recruit, interview, recommend for hire, and evaluate coaches. Ensure that all coaches meet HCA and KSHSAA standards.
- Scheduling: Coordinate all athletic events, practices, and scrimmages, secure facilities, and ensure transportation and officiating needs are met.
- Communications: Keep the school community informed about all athletic programs, student achievements, and any changes to schedules.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Budgeting: Submit and manage the athletic department budget, ensuring all expenditures are within approved guidelines.
- Equipment Management: Oversee the inventory, distribution, and repair of athletic equipment and uniforms. Ensure coaches are responsible for returning all issued materials.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of athletic participation, team achievements, student awards, and other relevant statistics. Ensure the eligibility status of student-athletes is updated and communicated regularly.
Professional Development:
- Join appropriate professional organizations related to athletics.
- Attend relevant clinics, seminars, and workshops to stay up-to-date on best practices in athletic administration.
- Maintain subscriptions to professional publications in the field of athletics.
