Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting for Per Diem Activity Therapists.
The recreational therapist serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, to provide therapeutic recreational and activity services to adult and adolescent patients under HBHH care for emotional or substance abuse problems.

Requirements
Education:
Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, occupational therapy).
CTRS or TRS/TXC license preferred.
Excellent communication, assessment, evaluation, and interpretation skills. Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment; flexibility; teaching or training skills helpful; understanding of, or ability to understand, DSM VI methodology.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of 1 experience in a healthcare field. Inpatient psychiatric experience preferred.
Requirements:
Therapist is responsible for planning scheduled recreational activities which meets physical, mental, psychosocial needs and interests of patients. Leads individual and group activities, encouraging patient participation daily with the utilization of various interventions to reduce stress, improve mood, increase motivation, and improve social skills. Able to complete an accurate therapeutic assessment on all patients and provide appropriate recommendations as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible among of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Activities occur inside and outside. Includes variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
