About the Job
Under the direction of Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the ADA Learning Specialist will work collaboratively with the other departments housed in the Division of Student Affairs, as well as the University faculty and the academic programs. The ADA Learning Specialist provides services directly to students that maximize the success, retention, and graduation of students. The successful candidate must also demonstrate dedication to the University’s code values of social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity through their work.
Responsibilities:- Meet with students submitting requests and process requests for accommodations.
- Work with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs to recommend and maintain appropriate accommodations based on documentation and regulations.
- Work with faculty to implement required accommodations.
- Provide academic coaching and support for students on an ongoing basis in individual and group formats in collaboration with other Learning Specialists. Provide students with strategies to improve study skills, study efficiency, test taking skills, time management skills, etc. Monitor progress of students at risk of under performance. Document coaching sessions with students.
- Assist faculty and staff to identify students who need writing, counseling, or other referrals.
- Develop and deliver workshops for current and prospective students.
- Attend meetings and events as assigned by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
- Assist with Commencement, New Student Orientations, and or other university ceremonies.
- Attend and participate as needed in the division, department and University meetings, committees, and events.
- Uphold policies and procedures in the university catalog and program handbooks
- Demonstrate dedication to the University’s core values of social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity through their work.
- Provide exceptional service and be able to articulate the mission and values of Touro University California.
- Show a capacity to support and celebrate students from a variety of identities (race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, sex, age, etc.).
- Ability to work flexible hours intermittently, such as evenings and Sundays, for special events.
- Serve as a Clery Act Campus Security Authority (CSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
· Bachelor’s degree required (Science, Health Science, Social Science, Education or related field preferred) · Experience with ADA and supporting students with documented disabilities · Experience teaching, training, and/or delivering presentations · Microsoft Office competency (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) · Zoom video conferencing competency · Familiarity with ADA and applicable laws, rules and regulations regarding students with disabilities · Familiarity with FERPA and applicable laws, rules and regulations regarding student records · Ability to present engaging material to high-achieving graduate students · Knowledge of active learning theories · Preferred experience in higher education, preferably student or human services · Preferred experience with health science programs · Preferred experience with graduate level accommodation services · Preferred experience conducting evaluations and recommendations for accommodations
