Work Type: Restricted Part Time (Total FTE less than 0.5)
Shift: Shift 2
Work Schedule: 8 Hr (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, every other weekend, variable schedule)
Summary:
Acts as a resource to staff nurses to facilitate and enhance quality of care for patients and families. Acts as a clinical role model for staff. Provides supervision for all departments within the patient care division and assumes delegated responsibility for overall hospital administrative functioning and unit staffing. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
• Assumes administrative responsibilities in the absences of hospital/department administration.
• Provides support and direction to all staff.
• Maintains communication with nursing staff to coordinate information, discuss any clinical issues and ensure staff support.
• Mentors decision-making with Charge RNs for appropriate cost-effective staffing levels.
• Acts as a liaison for customer service issues which occur during their shift and communicates to the appropriate department management.
• Fosters team work among the entire healthcare team.
• Maintains open communication with unit management regarding both positive and negative events which occurred during their shift.
• Identifies actual and potential personnel and system problems and recommends methods of resolution to the Vice
• President of Patient Care Services.
• Identifies learning and developmental needs of staff and communicates that to unit management.
• Reports administrative issues accurately, completely, and in a timely manner to the Vice President of Patient Care
• Services and/or the administrator on call.
• Participates in assuring compliance with JCAHO, IDPH, and other regulatory standards.
• Promotes the consistent use of Patient Safety Goals.
• Establishes coverage of hospital for absences of self and peers.
• Rounds to anticipate staff needs and minimize the need to page for assistance.
• Responds to patient call lights and models exceptional service.
• Responds to requests of all customers (includes staff) promptly and with the highest level of service behaviors.
• Accesses equipment and medications in departments that are closed in the off-hours and seeks to proactively meet the needs for patient care.

Required Job Qualifications:
• Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Allied Health or enrolled in program.
• Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• Current CPR and ACLS.
• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, and interacts effectively with others in difficult situations.
• Analytical and problem solving skills.
• Active listener.
• Models and coaches.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• National certification.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to work flexible shifts and days when required.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Possesses the ability to work in stressful and crisis situations, while exhibiting the highest degree of professionalism. Proven experience in conflict management and strong ability to negotiate differences.
• Must have the ability to mobilize throughout the Hospital.
• Work requires lifting or carrying objects of 10-30 pounds.
• Maintains the confidentiality of all patient information and that of the Rush Oak Park Hospital.
• Ability to manage Code Blue, RRT or other Code situations.
• Ability to function as Incident Commander until arrival of administrative staff.
• Ability to stand and walk throughout most of designated shift.
