Admissions Counselor - Lakeland University

POSITION PURPOSE

Recruit high school students from Milwaukee and the surrounding area through various avenues and provide support for prospects and their families as they progress through the college search, admissions, and enrollment processes. Advise on academic planning, cooperative education, financial aid support, academic programs and admission requirements relevant to degree options available through traditional programming on the main campus and a hybrid program at the Milwaukee Center. Promote and support university-wide initiatives related to the traditional student experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Recruit a diverse population of traditional undergraduate students based in Milwaukee and the surrounding area through high school visits, participation in education fairs, consortiums, community, and corporate recruitment functions, etc.
• Support the enrollment for Lakeland's Opus Program, a residential summer bridge program, and the Lakeland Milwaukee Co-op Year program, an exploratory first-year collegiate experience held in Milwaukee for recent area high school graduates.
• Advise prospective students by providing timely and accurate information about the degree options available through traditional programming, admissions and registration procedures, general education requirements, supporting and major course requirements for available programs of study, and rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the institution;
• As requested by administration, participate in program planning, professional development activities, and collaborations with academic and administrative units to provide educational and support services promoting the recruitment, retention, and degree-completion of traditional students;
• Refer prospective and current students to other campus and community resources as appropriate: faculty mentors, career counselors, financial aid advisors and other student serve representatives, other University office or personnel, and resources external to campus;
• Advise prospective students on the curriculum offerings and provide insight on creating anticipated graduation plans, including cooperative education pathways;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions or Vice President for Enrollment Management.

SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & SKILLS

• Qualification Required: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Strong organizational skills and an aptitude to assess the needs of, and effectively communicate with high school students diverse in ability, background, and academic interests. Ability to form constructive working relationships with prospective students, their families, and colleagues. Excellent professional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in commonly used technologies (e.g., Microsoft Office) and an ability to master new software applications as needed.
• Qualifications Preferred: Fluency in a second language. Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Experience working with traditional students in admissions or other student service environments. Working knowledge of the Jenzabar software platform and Slate, or another CRM platform.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk;
• No or very limited physical effort required;
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment;
• Must be able to sit or stand at a computer 6 to 7 hours a day when in the office;
• Requires non-traditional work hours including evening and weekend event with regional travel up to 50% of the time.
