Position Summary
The Admissions Registrar will be responsible for managing the hospital's beds, making assignments, recommending intra-hospital transfers as necessary and ensuring that all patients are placed appropriately. She/he will work closely with the Nurse Supervisor to ensure optimal patient flow, maintain department bed control manual in accordance with medical protocols and with the guidance of administration, attending physicians and infection control. She/he will ensure that the census in the hospital computer system is accurate. The Admissions Registrar will complete death certificates on expired inpatients and makes sure that the death notification sheet is filled out completely and timely.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Admits patient to hospital rooms using available systems.
• Assigns patients to a hospital room based on sex, diagnosis, age, and current hospital census and acuity on available units.
• Pre-registers incoming patients prior to their date of admission.
• Assigns private rooms where appropriate and explain hospital pre-payment policy.
• Arranges for escorts / transport of patients to their assigned rooms.
• Maintain an index of reserved and vacant beds using available systems.
• Displays excellent communication skills, customer service expertise, computer literacy and organizational skills.
• Admits/Discharges patients to and from specialty units such as ER, SNF, Psychiatric Services etc.
• Monitors and maintains hospital morgue census and interacts with funeral homes
• Provides support with the registration and admission of inmates from the Atlantic County Correctional Facility.
• Displays a positive attitude in the work environment.
• Establishes and maintains an on-going relationship with hospital operational and clinical staff.
• Consistently remains calm during stressful situations
• Distributes Physicians Patients List based on pre-determined schedule
• Competent with current applications: Power Chart, AX, AS400, Teletracking, FirstNet
• Provides each new admission with a Hospital Admissions Folder
• Obtain all necessary signatures from patients / patients responsible party in a timely manner
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPPA guidelines
• Responds with flexibility and cooperation to emergency requests for changes in work schedules or assignments
• Exhibits willingness to work where needed.
Qualifications
• Must have competent skill level in PC technology including data entry and use of other common MS Window programs
• One year experience in a business setting
• Knowledge of standard insurance terminology
• Excellent communication, public relations and organizational skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional even under emergency situations
• Patient registration, scheduling, or admissions experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
