Responsibilities*
Provides psychiatric mental health consultation for patients in children?s emergency services (CES) and inpatient pediatrics units; focus of time spent in CES.
Support mental health education to staff, nursing, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physician trainees relating to common pediatric mental health issues and concerns.
Serve as an essential part of the multidisciplinary team and attend team meetings/family meetings/care coordination meeting/daily huddles to provide clinical care.
Become involved in quality improvement initiatives with the C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry to promote and enhance Child C/L service delivery and education.
Engage in the promotion of scholarly work related to the Child C/L Service as needed.
Required Qualifications*
NP:
+ Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
+ Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitionerin the State of Michigan.
+ Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
+ Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
+ Current DEA registration
+ AHA approved BLS
+ One (1) or more years of either pediatric inpatient or child psychiatry experience
PA
+ Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
+ Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessor agencies.
+ Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
+ State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
+ Current DEA registration
+ AHA approved BLS
+ One (1) or more years of either pediatric inpatient or child psychiatry experience
NOTE:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*
+ One or more years of practice as a NP or PA.
+ A background providing care at the interface of pediatric medicine and child psychiatry is preferable.
+ Work in acute care settings, such as the emergency room, intensive care setting or during overnights and weekends with experience in problem-solving, crisis management, and de-escalation of distressed patients is preferred.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as measured by references and interviews.
+ Strong organizational skills and demonstrated problem solving skills.
+ Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge.
+ Demonstrated ability to share clinical care ideas and collaborate across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.
+ Commitment to clinical care, quality improvement, and teaching.
+ Demonstrated leadership in work setting and other professional activities.
Work Schedule
Hours: 40 per week
Shifts: 12-hour shifts, but may be adjusting to 8 or 10-hour shifts
Days: Rotation between night and afternoon shifts primarily, includes weekends and holidays
