Job Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides a comprehensive health assessment and evaluation for patients in the emergency department under the collaborative agreement with the supervising physician. This position provides health care services to patients including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. This position works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a comprehensive approach to patient care. The APP orders and interprets appropriate tests to facilitate care in the emergency setting. The APP manages emergency and critical patient situations and leads the team during resuscitation events.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through interviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, risk factors, and family history, psychosocial situation, and cultural factors; and performing appropriate examination.
- Orders or performs appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians for evaluation of illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
- Develops and implements treatment plan by prescribing/dispensing medications and/or injections in compliance with medical practice guidelines and state laws.
- Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
- Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
- Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits according to treatment plan including triaging patient calls/e-mails.
- Manages emergent and critical patient situations with evidence based care and follows established protocols as approved by pharmacy and therapeutics and the medical staff.
- Leads the emergency team with a focus on patient flow, safe and quality care and patient experience concepts.
- Responds to emergent needs and manages care for inpatients at night as requested by the Nursing Supervisor or attending physician.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant Required.
- 3 years Relevant experience in emergency care Required.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida and Certification in primary care by nationally accredited certifying organization Upon Hire Required or Physician Assistant Licensed State of Florida and Certified Physician Assistants (CCPA) National Board Upon Hire Required.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
- ACLS Provider (ACLS) Upon Hire Required.
- PALS Provider (PALS) Upon Hire Required.
- National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) Upon Hire Required.
- Knowledge of advanced practice including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, and alternative treatment modalities.
- Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
- Strong analytical and decision making skills.
- Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients
- Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform clinical procedures and physical examinations.
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Knowledge of insurance and medical terminology, coding, collections, and federal/state laws governing medical compliance.
- Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team skills.
