The City of Lynn Haven is looking for Advanced Wastewater Plant Operator Trainees who want to join the Advanced Waste Water Plant Operator Team. As a kid, did you like your chemistry kit, testing samples, figuring out problems, and tinkering with values, tools, and gadgets? Do you understand the benefit and need for safe waste water systems for a city and location? Then, a perfect job for you might be an Advanced Waste Water Plant Operator Trainee. These technical positions are involved in all aspects of the operations and maintenance of the City’s water plant facility. The trainees work shifts at the facility and work under the general direction and supervision of Licensed Advanced Waste Water Plant Operators.
The ideal TRAINEE candidate has graduated from a standard high school or has a GED, possesses an interest in the STEM field (i.e., science technology, engineering, and math), and shows a willingness to learn a career in the field of water and wastewater treatment. The City will provide the technical training so that the trainee can complete state-required hours and coursework and can test for a state license. This is a CAREER BUILDING position which will allow the trainee to learn valuable knowledge and skills, and process up the ranks as a Licensed C, B, and A operator. The trainee must have a valid driver's license and have the physical ability to meet the requirements of the job.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interprets operating data and observations to continually optimize the waste water plant process and equipment, makes adjustments to the process, as required, to effectively manage the waste water plant within compliance with all rules, regulations, ordinances, and facility standard operations procedures.
- Assists with minor repairs and preventative maintenance of waste water plant equipment and assists maintenance staff with major repairs.
- Participates in developing standard operating procedures and a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all equipment and processes.
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive operation and maintenance records.
- Assists with the proper inventory of chemicals and supplies are maintained for proper operations of the facility.
- Assists in collecting samples and performing routine physical and chemical analyzes in support of process control and to ensure effluent meets standards.
- Completes and submits reports to the supervisor and department director.
- Performs related work as required and/or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to learn the operation, maintenance practices, and procedures for waste water plant operations.
- Ability to learn the functions, mechanics, and limitations of pumps, valves, compressors, and other plant equipment.
- Ability to monitor the operation of the mechanical and electrical equipment in the waste water plant processes and to detect flaws and/or defects.
- Ability to read meters and charts accurately, maintain comprehensive records of operation and maintenance tasks, and to perform required analysis accurately.
- Ability to properly operate and maintain waste water plant processes in order to meet or exceed permit requirements and standard operation procedures.
- Ability to have good interpersonal skills, read and understand technical information related to the job, to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with the public, city leaders, and other departments.
- Ability to use basic mechanical repair tools and procedures.
- Must have good organizational skills.
- Ability to monitor, complete, and submit routine reports.
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving evaluation of equipment, process control, and information.
- Regular, reliable full-time attendance is required.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays, to be on call and respond to calls during non-scheduled work hours as required.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with a record acceptable to the City’s driving policy and insurance program.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent.
