GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Performance Engineerwill be involved in various analysis tasks of turbomachinery, rocket engine components, and product/processimprovements. Activelyparticipates in the engineering discipline's technical development and mentors and oversees technical content of junior engineers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conceptual design and optimization of turbomachinery performance cycles (air breathing engines, rocket turbopumps, and industrial gas turbines) using NPSS and GatesCycle modeling codes.
- Close coordination with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) on design limits of components related to turbomachinery performance.
- Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified turbomachinery designs.
- Documents changes through a formal engineering change notification process.
- Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
- Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- May guide or direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication.

Required Experience:
- Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics and associated geometry and meshing tools (ANSYS CFX, Fluent, ICEM, Turbogrid, Autogrid).
- Experience in use of CAD software (NX, Pro-E) is strongly desired.
- Experienced in all phases of development: conceptual design, analysis, validation, test, and correlation.
- Proficiency in aerodynamic physics and engineering principals with a strong understanding of practical design limitations.
- Turbomachinery aerodynamic design and analysis experience in flow-path analysis including inlet, fan, exhaust, axial and/or centrifugal compressor and turbine rotating and stationary components and/or cryogenic pump hydrodynamics.
- Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned duties, including computer skills.
- Maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by company and government requirements.
- Communicate and interact effectively with peers, supervisors, and public, including maintaining respect for others, and following company policies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering.
- 5+ years' experience of aerodynamics focus on turbomachinery and/or rocket engine component analyses and design.
- Proficiency with programming codes (C, C++, Java, Fortran, Matlab) is strongly desired.
- Expertise in NPSS or GatesCycle codes is required.
- Proficiency with Ansys software preferred.
