Summary As an AST, Theoretical Simulation Techniques engineer within the Advanced Engineering Development Branch, you will serve as a Technical Expert responsible for providing professional engineering expertise on assigned systems and operations such as Uncrewed Lunar Surface Systems and Moon-to-Mars Operations. Responsibilities Direct or manage theoretical simulation programs of national or international scope, including the development or design of large, new, and unusually complex systems that result in major advancement in the state-of-the-art of broad technologies. Serve as primary point of contact on theoretical simulation systems requirements of assigned projects such as Uncrewed Lunar Surface Systems (LSS) and Moon-to-Mars (M2M) Operations and Support efforts. Develop and demonstrate plans for the Uncrewed Lunar Surface Systems (LSS) and Moon-to-Mars (M2M) Operations and Support efforts and other assigned systems or projects. Provide decision making functions and engineering expertise in the formulation and implementation plans developed by the Lunar Architecture Team (LAT) and the Mars Architecture Team (MAT) and other programmatic teams and efforts. Serve as expert consultant in the resolution of the most challenging aerospace engineering problems on projects of national or international scope and impact. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Providing formulation functions, strategic analysis, engineering expertise or technical leadership in the formulation, development and demonstration plans for lunar systems and operations and support efforts; Developing the architecture for systems such as Surface Systems, Logistics, and Utilities and Service, and Landing and Departures Zones; Applying the strategy or objectives of NASA documents for long-term goals of human exploration of the solar system. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
