SUMMARY: The AHD Pharmacy Technician is responsible for drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the institution under the direct and constant supervision of a licensed pharmacist.The function of the technician also entails all patient billing processes and such clerical functions as are necessary for the efficient operation of the department.Performs other related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Schedule, process, and prepare sterile parental products.
2. Perform billing functions for all patient classifications and types.
3. Accurately interpret and process physician's medication order.
4. Accurately replace stock to the floors.Narcotic stock replacement and PYXIS stock replacement. Maintain proper levels of pharmacy inventory based on cost, usage patterns. Maintain proper stock levels within the department. Order pharmaceuticals and supplies from appropriate sources.Check dating of pharmaceuticals and remove expired drugs from active inventory.
5. Provide proper documentation for all manipulations of Schedule II drugs.
6. Pre-package bulk medications into unit-dose packaging.
7. Generate daily reports from pharmacy system software.
8. Check dating of all pharmaceuticals monthly and remove expired drugs, including narcotics, from active inventories in Pyxis, on nursing units and in department.
9. Performs monthly inventories of PYXIS and narcotic locker (C-II's ONLY).
10. Process interdepartmental charges.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred Experience: One year in a hospital pharmacy setting.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current State of California Pharmacy Technician License.
