We’re looking for an AI Ethics Specialist (aka The Ethical Innovator) to lead initiatives that ensure our AI systems are designed with integrity, fairness, and accountability.
As an AI Ethics Specialist at our client, you’ll work at the intersection of technology, policy, and society, ensuring that ethical considerations are embedded in the entire AI lifecycle. You’ll collaborate with data scientists, engineers, legal teams, and external stakeholders to identify potential ethical risks and create frameworks that guide responsible AI development and deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop AI Ethics Guidelines:
- Lead the creation and implementation of ethical guidelines for AI development, ensuring that AI systems align with principles of fairness, transparency, privacy, and accountability. You’ll help define best practices for the responsible use of AI.
- Assess and Mitigate Ethical Risks:
- Evaluate the ethical risks associated with AI models, algorithms, and data usage. You’ll identify potential biases, fairness issues, and privacy concerns, and work with teams to develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Collaborate on Fairness and Bias in AI:
- Work closely with data scientists and engineers to ensure that AI models are fair and unbiased. You’ll develop processes for auditing and testing algorithms for bias and work to ensure equitable outcomes across diverse populations.
- Regulatory Compliance and Governance:
- Ensure that AI systems comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and emerging AI governance frameworks. You’ll provide guidance on ethical data usage, model interpretability, and transparency.
- Education and Advocacy:
- Promote awareness and education about AI ethics across the company, helping to create a culture of responsibility around AI development. You’ll also advocate for ethical AI practices within industry forums, conferences, and public discussions.
- Monitor AI Impact and Accountability:
- Establish processes for monitoring the long-term impact of AI systems, ensuring they operate ethically after deployment. You’ll create feedback loops that allow continuous improvement and accountability for AI systems in production.
- Engage with External Stakeholders:
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, academic researchers, and advocacy groups, to stay informed on the latest developments in AI ethics. You’ll help shape public policy and contribute to industry-wide ethical standards.
Requirements
Required Skills:
- AI Ethics Expertise: Strong knowledge of AI ethics, including key principles such as fairness, accountability, transparency, and privacy. You understand the ethical challenges related to machine learning, data usage, algorithmic bias, and decision-making.
- Legal and Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and emerging AI governance frameworks. You have a solid understanding of how to ensure AI systems comply with legal and ethical standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with technical teams (data scientists, engineers) and non-technical teams (legal, policy, marketing) to embed ethical practices in AI projects.
- Bias Detection and Mitigation: Experience assessing and mitigating bias in machine learning models. You’re comfortable developing and implementing methods to ensure AI systems are fair and equitable across diverse populations.
- Communication and Advocacy: Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ethical issues to diverse audiences, from engineers to executives. You’re also a strong advocate for ethical AI practices in industry discussions.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in AI Ethics, Philosophy, Law, Data Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience in AI ethics or related disciplines is highly valued.
- Certifications or additional coursework in AI ethics, data governance, or regulatory compliance are a plus.
Experience Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in AI ethics, policy, or a related role, with hands-on experience developing ethical guidelines, ensuring AI fairness, and working on governance and compliance issues.
- Proven track record of collaborating with technical teams to ensure ethical AI development, with experience in detecting and mitigating biases in algorithms.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries or advising on legal and regulatory aspects of AI is highly desirable.
