AI Research Engineer Intern - PENA Panasonic Energy of North America

What You'll Do:

Panasonic Energy is looking for interns to join our creative team in the AI department. Our Engineering teams are hard-working, goal-oriented, and creative, and they are looking for interns to train. The interns hired for this position should expect to learn all facets of manufacturing and will leave this position with invaluable skills and industry knowledge. Also, this internship program is highly regarded in our field, so successful participation will be a great addition to your resume. 

Internship Details: 

• Local candidates preferred

• The program will be a fulltime paid summer internship working for Panasonic Energy onsite at the Kansas City Metro Facility   

• The program will be 12 weeks in length, and is planned to occur between Monday, May 19th and Friday, August 8th. This date range is subject to change

• Must be able to attend the entirety of the internship 

Program Requirements: 

• The program will be a fulltime paid summer internship working for Panasonic Energy onsite at the Kansas City Metro Facility   

• Must attend entirety of internship from the indicated start and end date noted above

• Minimum 3.2 GPA

• Must have completed a minimum of 2 years at an accredited university

• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited university at the time of the internship 

Essential Duties: 

• Develop effective techniques and infrastructure, from the initial idea to the running prototype and product

• Similar to a research environment, you will write code, use the latest machine learning tools, run experiments, and generally develop techniques and processes to enable intelligent abilities on industrial applications

• Partner with teams across the company to implement your ideas into their products

• Remain connected to the broader research community by partnering with internal and external collaborators and participate in relevant conferences

• Work on fundamental research to provide essential solutions to problems facing the company

• Visualize and explain work through presentations and notebooks 

• Work with other teams including business division to accelerate AI application in company-wide business processes

• Publish research findings in leading academic venues and represent our company at the external conferences

• Write, test and maintain production-quality code

• Design, experiment and evaluate models

• Research, design and implement novel, highly scalable Deep Learning algorithms with focus on various kinds of data including image thermal depth sensor, Lidar, acoustic, graphs, tables, and more.

• Strategy development for the field of DL with focus on our lab’s applications, support in strategic decision making with regard to various science problem

• Lead or participate in the development of related research proposals

• Promote collaborative research with interdisciplinary research team

• Digest and understand complex research papers, theory and thinking, with an ability to write algorithms from scratch

• Own, report and present engineering developments to our internal and external collaborators clearly and efficiently in verbally and in writing

• Provide high quality code through the use of Python or C++ and presenting programming knowledge to a research group 

What You'll Bring:

Education: 

• Completion of at least two years of full-time enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Applied Math, or related discipline  

Essential Qualifications: 

• Must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at an accredited four-year college or university

• Completion of at least two years of full-time enrollment (minimum 12 credit hours per semester) in a Bachelor’s degree program in Finance and Accounting or related field

• GPA of 3.2 or higher

• Basic knowledge of project management processes and tools

• Strong problem-solving skills

• Strong organizational skills

• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to write and communicate technical information clearly and concisely

• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

• Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Minimum 3.2 GPA

• Hands-on experience acquired through internships, jobs, research, or personal projects

• A desire to create a sustainable future through energy storage, renewable energy, and electric vehicles
