Alation Data Engineer | About You
As an Alation Data Engineer, you are responsible for implementing and maintaining Alation's data catalog platform, ensuring efficient data discovery, governance, and collaboration across the organization. You will work closely with data architects, analysts, and various stakeholders to build scalable solutions that drive business insights. Your expertise in Alation will ensure key data is organized, accessible, and aligned with governance policies, empowering teams to make data-driven decisions.
Alation Data Engineer | Day-to-Day
- Implement, configure, and manage the Alation Data Catalog platform to ensure data availability, accuracy, and performance.
- Integrate Alation with various data sources, including cloud storage, databases, and data lakes.
- Collaborate with data architects and analysts to design solutions that enhance data discovery, governance, and usage across the organization.
- Develop and maintain metadata management and data lineage to provide visibility into data assets and ensure comprehensive governance.
- Enforce data governance policies and best practices within Alation to ensure compliance, security, and data quality.
- Work with cross-functional teams to catalog new data sources, update assets, and enhance the accessibility and usability of data across the organization.
Alation Data Engineer | Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with hands-on Alation Data Catalog implementation.
- Proficiency in metadata management, data governance, and data lineage tools, ensuring data visibility and compliance.
- Experience integrating Alation with cloud databases, on-prem systems, and data lakes (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Strong SQL skills with familiarity in ETL pipelines, data modeling, and transformation processes.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data warehousing technologies, and API integrations (e.g., REST APIs).
- Problem-solving and communication skills to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams, with scripting knowledge (Python) for automation as a plus.
