Our client is seeking a dedicated and proactive Shop Foreman to oversee the daily operations within a high-demand, union-based production facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Shop Foreman will be responsible for ensuring safe practices, high-quality production standards, training of team members, and efficient utilization of personnel and materials. This role is crucial to maintaining productivity, reducing waste, and fostering a positive, professional working environment. The ideal candidate is experienced in leading production teams, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and implementing quality control measures.
Key Responsibilities:

- Quality Control: Conduct routine inspections of materials to ensure compliance with production standards. Inspect samples at various production stages and train press personnel to conduct visual checks to minimize scrap and maintain quality.
- Production Oversight: Manage shift production, completing detailed production reports and addressing any deviations from production goals. Follow and enforce the press lineup and work order instructions for efficient order fulfillment.
- Employee Training: Provide ongoing training on established procedures, setting clear expectations and evaluating employee performance. Encourage accountability and ensure backup personnel are trained for key roles.
- Shift Coverage: Ensure shop coverage whenever union employees are present, including taking on extra shifts or dividing Saturday coverage as necessary.
- Personnel Assignment: Optimize staff placement based on production needs, assigning helpers and training employees to maximize productivity during both high-demand and complex operations.
- Discipline and Re-training: Address performance issues professionally, using respectful correction techniques. Document incidents with factual observations and provide corrective training to maintain a positive work environment.
- General Supervision and Maintenance: Enforce procedural compliance, particularly with tools and equipment handling, ensuring efficient use and prevention of costly damages. Act as the competent authority on maintenance practices within the facility.
- Stop Work Authority: Encourage stopping work when uncertain, emphasizing accountability and prioritizing safety and quality over speed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Foreman or Supervisory role in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably within a unionized facility.
- In-depth knowledge of PPE standards, workplace safety, and OSHA regulations.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and production plans.
- Experience with quality control practices and understanding of tolerance standards for manufactured goods.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on team-building, training, and employee development.
