Purpose Statement/Position Summary: As a part of the Ambulatory Float Pool Team, you provide administrative and patient care support to various ambulatory practices. Duties include, but are not limited to: Under moderate supervision, performs clerical tasks associated with scheduling, verifying patient appointments, registration, check-in/out procedures, and cashiering duties. Coordinates ancillary services, consultations, and referrals ordered for patients. Answers and screens incoming calls, takes and relays messages to clinicians. We are looking for highly flexible, enthusiastic and proactive individuals with the ability to travel to all CHLA locations (main hospital and offsite locations) throughout the greater Southern California area.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ year experience in medical front office setting.
Required:
- Availability to work various days/shifts and occasional weekends
- Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with a patient population in varying degrees of health
- Familiarity and knowledge of authorization process and managed care programs
- Ability to adapt to different situations or competing demands
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate multiple appointments with many multi-specialty clinical services.
- Must be highly flexible, enthusiastic, have a proactive approach, work efficiently under pressure and work efficiently in a team environment.
- Must be comfortable with computers and medical terminology.
- Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of major insurance plans and types of coverage provided
Education/Licensure/Certification: High school diploma or GED required.

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
